The Visitors Route
The Visitors Route at Groot Constantia is well worth the visit, from learning about the rich history of Groot Constantia, witnessing the wine production process and ultimately tasting the fruits of their labour, you just have to make your way to Groot Constantia and experience their Visitors Route!
Just like fine wine, I tend to be getting better with age. Nightclubs were the order of the day and was where you would find me celebrating my birthday. These days I much prefer the great outdoors and spending time with the people that matter the most. This is exactly what the Visitors Route is all about, bringing people together and savouring some fine Groot Constantia Wine, every and any occasion to taste good wine is worth celebrating!
Birthday celebrations has always been a highlight of my existence and when I received an invitation to attend the 334th birthday celebrations of Groot Constantia, I was there in a flash! #Celebrating334Abundance
The Groot Constantia Visitors Route
Your journey begins at the original Manor House at Groot Constantia and forms the starting point to the Visitors Route Experience.
Iziko Cultural Museum
Learn all about the former owners of Groot Constantia, like Simon van der Stel and experience how they lived all those years ago.
Thereafter you will make your way to the famed which was the original wine production cellar of the estate back in 1791 and the birthplace of Grand Constance.
Fun Fact: Napoleon loved the sweet Grand Constance wine so much that he would order 30 bottles a month during his exile on St Helena Island.
The Cloete Cellar has since been transformed into a Wine Museum and Tasting Room where you can enjoy a wine tasting with your own Spiegelau crystal glass to take home as a memento.
From the Cloete Cellar you then make your way to the modern Production Cellar, which is the departure point for the self-guided cellar and vineyard audio-tours.
The legendary wines of the Estate may be tasted and bought 7 days a week.
Tours go every Hour on the Hour: 10:00 – 11:00 – 12:00 – 13:00 – 14:00 – 15:00 – 16:00
